We got over it!

“We” being the 35,000+ runners, joggers and walkers that travel from near and far to participate in the annual Cooper River Bridge Run. Founded in 1978, the Bridge Run is now the 3rd largest 10k in the United States. Approximately 75% of the participants travel over 60 miles to experience this event, which has an economic impact of $30M on the Charleston, SC community. This year, I participated with a group of friends who contributed to that 75% – traveling to Charleston from Charlotte, Indiana, and Kentucky!

As a second year bridge runner, I was determined to beat my time from last year, but was running out of steam in the last mile. As I made the second-to-last turn onto King Street, I noticed an all too familiar window ajar and recognized my coworkers-turned-friends cheering me on from the KCG office! I ended up finishing the race 6 minutes faster than my previous year and set a new personal record for my mile pace. The Cooper River Bridge Run is now a race I look forward to every year.

Sometimes all I need to stay energized during a long stretch is encouragement from my team. When you’re burnt out, what keeps you motivated to beat your best?
